BASIC Operator Course to earn Ground Team Member 3rd class
 
          Objective: This school will teach you ‘the ropes’ of becoming a 3rd Class Ground Team Member. You’ll learn what equipment you’ll need and how to use it properly, basic navigation, wilderness survival, and basic Search and Rescue Techniques. This course will bridge the gap from an introduction to Emergency Services to becoming a professional Search and Rescuer.
1. Cadets must have attained the grade of C/Amn, Officers must have
    completed Level 1 training.

2. Any persons over 18 years of age MUST have completed CPPT.
3. Possess a CAPF 101 card
4. Completion of FEMA course IS-100
5. Completion of FEMA course IS-700
6. Completion of CAP Operational Security Awareness Training (OPSEC)
7. Completion of CAP Operational Risk Management Training
    (ORM BASIC, INTERMEDIATE, & ADVANCED)

8. Currently First Aid/CPR Certified
9. Complete CAPT 117 Part 1
     
    Certifications Upon Successful Graduation:
            - 3rd Class Ground Team Member (GTM3)
            - Urban Direction Finding Team (UDFT)
 
ADVANCED Operator Course to earn Ground Team Member 2nd Class
 
          Objective: Now that you’ve learned the basics, you’ll build on your knowledge by learning more advanced navigation and advanced land survival techniques. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge to be deployed on rescue missions for up to 48 continuous hours unassisted and able to perform your duties as an expert navigator.
1. Must meet all prequisites for Basic Operator Course, plus:
2. Currently qualified as a Ground Team Member 3rd class

    Certification upon Successful Graduation:
         - 2nd Class Ground Team Member (GTM2)

EXPERT Operator Course to earn Ground Team Member 1st class
 
          Objective: Become an expert ground team member by achieving a 1st Class Ground Team Member rating. This rigorous course will test your accumulated skills while continuing to build your knowledge. You will be trained to assist your Ground Team Leader and help guide your team to the objective. You will polish your ground team skills and prepare to make the jump from Ground Team Member to Ground Team Leader. With this certification you will be prepared to be deployed on actual missions for up to 72 hours without assistance and master the skills of a ground team member. Upon graduation, you will be certified as a GTM1 as well as be eligible for staff positions such as an Instructor at the next LIGSAR Academy.
1. Must meet all prequisites for Advanced Operator Course, plus:
2. Currently qualified as a Ground Team Member 2nd Class
      
    Certifications Upon Successful Graduation:
         - 1st Class Ground Team Member (GTM1)
 
 
MASTERY Operator Course to earn Ground Team Leader (For persons whom are 18 years old.)
 
1. Must meet all prerequisites or Expert Operator Course, plus:
2. Cadets must have attained the grade of C/SSgt, Officers must be at
    least an FO or 2d Lt.

3. Must be at least 16 years of age to graduate the course. (Persons
    pursuing GTL must be 18)

4. Currently qualified as a GTM1 and have graduated from 1 other
    LIGSAR course; or

5. If no LIGSAR experience, must be currently qualified as a GTL or GTL
    Trainee

         - Ground Team Leader (GTL)
